Never Had a Friend Like Me by PhoenixFuryBane Never Had a Friend Like Me by PhoenixFuryBane
Aladdin is pretty much my favorite Disney movie to this day. Despite that I haven't done too many Aladdin pieces and this is the first one that ever got a splash of color.

Reference (I watched the movie a few times and paused it) used to make sure I didn't completely screw up Genie and the colors. This is based mostly off of right after the Friend Like Me number.

This was a fun piece. :) I also finished it in about a day, give or take, which feels like I'm getting faster.

I read that the musical sequence was the first one they ever animated, with a different artist. Originally it was just placeholder, but they decided that the song's zaniness and fast speed would prevent the audience to notice the different art, and kept it in.

Thank you! The swirls weren't intended to say anything, but as far as I'm concerned, they could say love. Genie and Al are best buddies. :D

Oh... you... you... YOU WIN. EPICALLY. XD

I love it! The colors and the way is shaded, mainly. Also, this is a great scene you chose! ("APPLAUSE" xD)
Your fav movie is Aladdin? lol, mine is BatB, and I'm also making stuff of it... Disney's taking over D8

But yeah, anyway, I'll say it again: YOU WIN

Thank you! I'm glad you like it. The Friend Like Me number is one of my fave moments (there's another that I'd like to do at some point). BatB comes in a close second for me (and always got extra points for Belle being the first Disney Princess I felt I had a lot in common with). There are just too many things to draw, right? :XD:

And again, thank you! :thanks:

Dude!

I mean....DUDE! :wow:

Just..... DUUUUUUUUUUUUDE! :jawdrop:

I agree that Aladdin is pretty much my favorite,a fact that I was reminded by watching it while laying sick on the couch the other day, so seeing this was really joyful to me. That's a good part of why I think it's so awesome.

HOWEVER, the fact you've done such a great job duplicating the style (while still adding your touch - I can see your face design method in Aladdin's profile, along with your shading strokes :)) and made something that is so colorfully beautiful and rich is the majority of why this rocks. :headbang: (headbang cuz it rocks so hard)

I've always loved the color palette the Disney folks used for this film and I love how you've translated it into your own fanart piece. The majority is blue tones which makes the purple and slight bits of gold stand out and grab your attention. The best work I feel you did here was with the Flying Carpet (argh, can't remember name!), the balance is just right (and the shape design looks fantastic :D) and all the colors blend really well together.

Although obviously when using reference a lot of credit is due to it, but it is an effort and a talent to learn, understand, and adapt your own color sense to that which you're paying homage to. Yeah, it's definitely been ingrained in yer brain for so many years (over a decade now?! damn!), but even so, there can be those temptations to say, "well, maaaaaaybe I can change just this ooooooone color." And even if you did, I definitely didn't notice.

Anyway, I've probably rambled enough. Good work, dudette! The speed with which you did this is also comforting.

So about Cerost? ;) *cough*
Kidding. I'll bug you again though. =P

Oh and one last time.

Duuuuuuuude. B-)

Thanks, dude! :thanks: I wanted to make sure Genie was on model (movie on model not TV show on model because that Genie looks different), but with Aladdin I felt freer to just draw him whatever way felt right. Their color choices for the movie are just so tops with me that it still didn't feel right going with something different, but throwing in the shading made it feel more mine. I threw in different shades of colors that were in the film to make a few things a bit more vibrant (Genie and the metallic parts of the piece in particular).

lol The Flying Carpet is just called...Carpet. Because he's a carpet. ;) Again, I did use reference to make sure I didn't screw up too much, but I fudged things here and there where I felt it would be better for me. Working from a HUGE size helped to keep the detail on him look okay.

Don't worry about Cerost. I haven't forgotten it. I never will. ;)

Thanks! :D Pausing the movie helped to get the background and colors right. A lot of it has been ingrained in my head over the years, though. I've seen this movie so many times I can probably recite the lines along with it. ;)

Yeah, I would have finished it in one day if I hadn't had to stop for meals. Leaving it overnight did allow me to make sure everything still looked okay and finish off Aladdin's shading. Thanks! I'm glad you like it. :)

You have wonderful talent!

Just felt like sharing another great Aladdin piece I found on DA - it's not in the Disney style and it twists the story, but it's very beautiful.
